Water Heritage in Antas

With this publication we intend to make known the hydraulic heritage of Antas in order to continue preserving it for the knowledge of future generations and try to avoid its possible destruction.

I am sure that there is a lack of canalizations, waterwheels, fountains, etc., any suggestions and notifications will be well received.

WATER CONDUITS: GALLERIES, IRRIGATION DITCHES AND AQUEDUCTS

– Gallery of Fuente Nueva ( Pago de El Real): It conducts the waters from the Fuente del Moro, in the Ballabona, to Vera passing through the Rambla del Cajete, down to the right and crosses the Rambla del Cajete through the Aqueduct of D. Ramon Orozco and irrigates the Real Alto de Antas and El Real bajo de Vera.

– Galería de La Gloria (Pago de El Real): Crosses the Rambla del Cajete, continues along the left bank of the wadi to irrigate the Pagos de La Gloria, Venta and Salmerón.

– Concordia Gallery: It leaves Alameda del Rey (lower Jauro and Huerta de arriba), reaches La Viga, crosses Aljariz and exits at La Pila (Aljariz), irrigates Llano de Aljariz, Los Colorados and irrigates the lands of El Real above the Fuente Nueva Gallery, linking up with it at the D. Ramon Orozco Aqueduct.

-Galleryof the Fountain of Las Cerrada: In the past, it used to conduct the water along the left bank of the river until it reached the Fountain of La Bermeja where they joined their waters, crossed the river and took the water to the Pagos de La Huerta and Los Llanos.

-Galería de la Viga: The water from the Huerta crosses the river through the iron beam and is conveyed to the Pago de la Huerta and the surplus water to the Pagos that have the right (Pago de Los Llanos, Llanos del Mayor, Llanos de San Roque, Granadico).

– Galleries/ Ramales del Pago de La Huerta

– High branch. It goes to Los Depósitos (Pago de los Llanos) in front of the cortijo of

Bernardo’s uncle Melchor and crosses the Cerro de la Perula and goes out to the deposits.

– Middle Branch. Known as La Galería. It goes out to Los Colorines in front of Antonio Almansa’s farmhouse, passes in front of María Artero’s farmhouse, arrives at Los Pellejas Mill, irrigates all the lands in its path and falls into the irrigation ditch of Pago de La Huerta and passes through Isidro’s lands to the irrigation ditch of Pago de Los Llanos.

– Lower branch. Acequia del pago and goes to Uncle Roque’s mill.

– Branch from reservoirs to Los Llanos, Llanos del Mayor (Pago Los Llanos)

• Branch from reservoirs for Los Llanos de San Roque, Olivar, Las Cuerdas (Pago de los Llanos).

• Branch from the reservoirs to irrigate part of the Monjas farms and part of the Pago de Mendras (Pago de los Llanos/ Mendras) through the Monjas Aqueduct.

– Galería / Ramal de Mendras: On the right bank of the river it leads to the Pago de Mendras (Pago La Huerta/ Mendras).

– Galería / Ramal del Chopo: It conducts water through the Pago del Chopo and the surplus water to the Pago de La Cuesta through the Terrero (Pago del Chopo/ Pago de La Cuesta).

– Galería / Ramal de Macura: It conducts water to the Macura pago and at the end of the pago through the Peluraco mill it conducts excess water to the Mayor Bajo and Morjana pagos (Pago de Macura, Mayor, Morjana).

– Gallery / Ramal de El Garcel: It conducts the waters to El Garcel through El Argar and the surplus to the Rotilla payment (Pago de El Garcel).

– Gallery / Ramal de la Joica: It leads the waters of the Joica to the lower Pago de El Mayor, crossing the Cabezo de Martín Rico (Pago de la Joica).
