Pilarico Fountain
Around this spring, located in the Cabezo Maria, there have been deposits of the Late Bronze Age (Phoenicians 1250-1100 BC) and later Late Roman (S.VII AD). In 1877, in the session of June 29, it is forbidden to draw water to outsiders from the Fuente del Pilarico. These waters will be used by the residents of Antas for their domestic uses and cannot be given or sold to outsiders. To comply with this agreement a municipal guard is placed daily to guard the fountain. In 1893 the councilman D. Gabriel Guerrero Simón proposes to make a public fountain to supply the population and to bring the waters of El Cabezo María and Fuente del Pilarico because “only the wealthy class can be fed” because they are more than 4 kilometers away and the population, for the most part, cannot bring them. It is intended to install the fountain in the widening behind the Church (today Plaza de Monseñor D. Bernardo) but the project is paralyzed for lack of companies to carry it out but it seems that the project was lost by “political interests”. In 1933 it was agreed to make water lighting works in La Fuente del Pilarico, destined for public supply.
