July 30 is the world day against human trafficking; the Government Delegation against Gender Violence presents the Common Action Guide for the detection, notification and referral of cases of sexual exploitation against children in residential centers, with special attention to girls and adolescents (ESIA Guide), prepared by Noemí Pereda, Alba Aguila-Otero and Marta Codina of the Research Group on Child and Adolescent Victimization (GReVIA) of the University of Barcelona and Myriam Cabrera of the Chair of Children’s Rights of the Pontifical University of Comillas.
Child and adolescent sexual exploitation (CSAE) is a form of sexual violence that affects a significant number of particularly vulnerable minors who are cared for in the residential centers of our country’s protection system.
The guide aims to provide residential services professionals with a comprehensive tool for preventing, detecting, communicating and intervening in cases of FSIA. It consists of two parts, a first part of contextualization, which deals with regulatory and legal aspects that situate the actions of professionals, as well as a conceptual framework based on evidence from previous studies and research, and a second part with measures, resources and concrete steps to follow to address FSAS in residential centers.
It is hoped that this tool will provide security and support to professionals in their intervention work, promoting an environment of protection and good treatment in the face of this serious social problem.
